Named for George Bailey of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, is a public-private partnership designed to restore health and vitality to depleted neighborhoods in Rockford’s Mid-Town area. Our target – Veterans and their families as well as families and individuals who are recovering from homelessness.
Goal 1. Expand available housing stock for Veterans and their families
Goal 2. Provide office space for Shelter Care’s housing department
Goal 3. Support health, vitality and positive community growth within the business and neighborhoods in the Mid-Town district
Goal 4. Create a visible project to expand the base of community support for agency programs
As a result of a community oriented investor, Shelter Care took responsibility for six buildings and 18 additional units of housing, which soon grew to 23 houses and apartments for veteran families and individuals who are recovering from homelessness. Together with the Rockford Housing Authority, Winnebago County Housing Authority and Shelter Care, the project is making a difference in the lives of 23 families.
