Shelter Care Ministries Lines Up Soup Challengers
for its Soup-r-Fest Event on October 13
Rockford, IL – September 12, 2012 – Soup-r-Fest Challengers are queuing up, getting out their secret recipes, sharpening knives and pulling out cutting boards for the first annual Soup-r-Fest Challenge being sponsored by Shelter Care Ministries on Saturday, October 13, from 2 to 5 pm in downtown Rockford at the corner of Park Ave. and Court Street.
One challenger – a small faith community from Holy Family Church – held a mini soup challenge to pick the best of five tasty soups with the hands down winner a sausage tortellini soup guaranteed to satisfy. Members had their own evening of fun, gathering to help Shelter Care make the soup challenge a success.
Spectrum Insurance’s Jim Rozinsky assures Shelter Care his recipe is a family favorite, one everyone will be sure to vote for. Jim will bring his family out to volunteer at the event and be a part of making Rockford a city that cares about its people. He says, “I’m ready and up to the challenge. My soup has been tweaked to the nth degree … it’s a winner!” Jim’s company provides Shelter Care employees with their health care plan.
Attendees will enjoy live music from the Park District Showmobile, childrens’ activities including face painting and the bouncy house, vendors and many other events for all ages. Soup lovers will be able to taste all the soups and vote for their favorite. The winner of the Soup-r-Fest Challenge gets possession of the coveted Soup Pot trophy until the following year’s challenge when the trophy is once again up for grabs.
Admission is $5 and children under 6 are free. The admission fee provides soup, chips, dessert and a beverage. Space is still available for marketplace vendors and Soup Challenge Teams. Call Carol West at 815-964-5520 or e-mail her at cwest@shelter-care.org.
